On an outdated smartphone rolled an exit text -like video made out of the motivation letter I wrote when I applied to the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki in Autumn 2020. The flashlight of the smartphone was on and pointed to a film showing the results of the different sections of my first entrance examination to the Police University College in 2023. On office papers hung to the wall and on a wooden bar suspended in the air were hand made drawings and cut-out first and fourth round entrance examination scores copied and mixed creating blue shadows in the space. The goal of the project was to figure out what it would mean to change a career from fine arts to law enforcement. Prepared as my MFA thesis from The Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki the work is bringing up the uncertain career options of a graduating fine artist. in collaboration with Pedro Riva. It’s describing the surroundings of the Citizen Square during the pandemic lockdown in the spring 2021. Through the images of selected public cultural spaces mixed with digital environments and disformed human silhouette the work is tackling the ideas of normal, understandable, familiar and private. The installation combines automatic drawing produced as a part of several years long drawing routine (see 'Drawing routine 2016-') with materials associated with forest industry. The installation is dealing with the history of the exhibition space that was posessed by several forest companies before being sold to the city of Tampere. The aim was to spend time meditating on the links between heavy industries, media and art through the usage of wooden building materials and paper kindly donated by Sanoma Manu Oy. <img width="1106"
